SeoulGrid Guide to Clubbing Vol. 07

What’s up, SeoulGrid? Hope everyone had fun last week — I know I had a blast in Japan! But as fun a city as Tokyo is, I have to say, I’m definitely glad to be back in Seoul this weekend. I honestly don’t think there’s anywhere in the world that parties harder than we do ;)

This weekend starts off on Thursday, as we’ve got Kanye West’s DJ coming to Seoul and you wouldn’t want to miss it. So without further ado, let’s check out what this weekend has to offer…

Cafe Wonderland @ Hongdae – Cozy & Unique Cafe

Posted by Jed On April - 24 - 2010

cafe wonderland at hongdae

Along with one of the best art schools in Korea, Hongdae boasts an eclectic assortment of fine cafes and novel restaurants. Deciding where to go for coffee or food in this area is always a challenge. Moreover, since Hongdae is always packed, I like to find a quiet place to have a cup of coffee or read papers. If you don’t mind wandering a bit off the map, Cafe Wonderland, with its cozy atmosphere, is one of the best places for you to take time to relax.

Cafe Wonderland is located just behind SeoKyo Elementary School, about a 15-minute walk from Hongik University. It’s refreshingly removed from the clutter of central Hongdae, but be careful not to miss it: The alley down which it appears is full of wine bars and cafes, and Wonderland’s second story location makes it doubly easy to go unnoticed.

SeoulGrid.com Guide to Clubbing Vol. 06

What’s up, SeoulGrid? Sorry about the delay in posting up the club guide this week. My already crazy week unexpectedly got a bit crazier… [My plane crashed on this mysterious island, then we got attacked by this big black column of smoke, and... Ok, so I'm just really irresponsible, and I spent the past week catching up on "Lost" instead of working on SeoulGrid. Look, I'm sorry, alright?!]

Midterms finish up this week for the university students among us, and you know what that means — the clubs are going to be wild this weekend in celebration. A few quick updates… The good: Club Heaven has free entry Friday night! The bad: Club Volume is still closed on Friday (and maybe Saturday too?) for renovations. The ugly: I’ll be in Tokyo this weekend, so you all will have to party it up without me. Yeah, I know you’ll miss me — but don’t worry, I’ll still be partying hard on the other side of the East Sea. Unfortunately for me, I’m gonna miss some great shows in Seoul this weekend.

Read on to find out what’s up, and prepare yourselves for yet another epic weekend of the chaotic debauchery that is Seoul’s club scene…

New restaurants in the Cheongdam area are constantly springing up and it is difficult to choose which ones to review.  Fortunately, Villa Etwas was recommended to us so we decided to give their brunch buffet a thorough go.

Hey guys, sorry about the delay this week. I’m not gonna lie — let’s just say it was an “interesting” weekend… and that Saturday’s hangover took me two days to recover from. Haha.

This week we’re looking at party photos from the Mini Cooper Launch Party @ Heaven, Paul Oakenfold @ Volume, Funkagenda @ Eden, and “Bonnie and Clyde” @ Heaven.

SeoulGrid Guide to Clubbing Vol. 05

What’s up SeoulGrid — everyone have fun last weekend? I know I had a blast at Funkagenda, and I heard from tons of people that Oakenfold was epic. I even know one diehard clubber who hit up Volume, Answer, and Eden all on Saturday night so as to not miss anything. [Haha, I hope he's reading this -- rock on bro.]

No Paul Oakenfolds this week, but that doesn’t mean we can’t party hard. Unfortunately, Club Volume is closed again to finish renovations (these things always seem to take longer than expected), and should be opening finally next Friday. Fortunately, one of the other clubs has a really unique DJ coming in this weekend who’s supposed to put on an awesome show. Keep reading for the lowdown…

pork-souvlaki-closeup

Sometimes you want to break away from your dining experience that more or less is consistent with the following: pasta, galbi, pizzas, samgyupsal, chicken and repeat. Why not introduce something fresh to the menu?

One restaurant I frequent these days is… none other than Itaewon’s Greek souvlaki restaurant, Santorini, located in the alley behind Hamilton Hotel.

The interior of the restaurant is aptly decorated, colored brightly in white and blue to remind visitors of the real place.

Ddeokgalbi ordered at Modern Babsahng

Until now, I perceived Garosu-gil as a place only to find decent foreign food ranging from Indian to French. I thought only options for Korean food were available on samgyupsal (pork belly) shops or soju bars located on side streets or streets branching from the main street. But I ran into Modern Bab-Sahng (모던밥상), which roughly translates to modern meals. English name for the place is titled “Homemade Korean Dishes”.

Conspicuous with a magenta display sign, the place is located right opposite of Tom N Toms or next to Kuai19 (a Chinese dumpling place).
