Restaurants, Bars, Clubs and Nightlife in Seoul, Korea

Your Guide to Premium Nightlife in Seoul

Sometimes you just need your own space – which is the reason why I was rather hesitant to write this article to begin with.  I sort of wanted to keep this venue out of everyone’s sight, which I am sure the venue owner will strongly disagree with, but I decided to share my hidden gem with everyone on the site.

The venue in question is titled Social Club, in the middle of Shinsa Garosu-gil.  It is located smack in the middle of the main street, right across from 7/11.  I ended up checking out the place when I noticed a sign that I didn’t notice before.  Fairly conspicuous with its minimalist design, the square sign suggested it must be a new trendy place in Shinsa.

As soon as I climbed down the stairs I was confronted by a short corridor with a closed door that shielded the outside from the venue.  As I entered, I observed all the interior, from the wallpaper to furniture, was black in color.  Reasonably surprised by its unique appearance, I noticed that I was the only customer.

I found it quite amusing that the place was everything but what the title says it is: social; I have no idea why, but every time I visited this place the most customer I saw was a group of… 2… Sitting in a table for… 4.

Social Club boasted a fancy lighting system at the bar.  The place had a vintage feel to it, though every piece of furniture and decoration in sight was either colored, if not painted, black.  I thought it was pretty edgy.

One wall was covered entirely with empty photo frames, of course black in color… I can see plenty of artistic and creative minds were involved in production of the venue.

As I looked over the menu, I realized they had Negra Modelo on the menu!  Simply not capable of supressing the urge, I went right ahead and ordered.  7,000 Won for a bottle, which was very reasonable.  A bottle of Moet & Chandon went for 110,000 which was reasonable as well.

While I was sipping on my Negra Modelo, wondering why such a place was as empty as the frames that were facing me, I realized this is probably a great venue for bringing a close group of friends for some drinks, while conversing over deephouse music.

The furniture arrangement and layout is such that atmosphere can spontaneously spark and turn into a dancing lounge… Or it can subside and resume its status of being a  secret hideout.  Three words stuck to my mind as I left the place: exclusive, upscale, and… Void.

Directions: get out at exit 8 of Shinsa Stn. On line no. 3. Walk straight out of the exit and make a left at Garosugil (two-lane street).  Walk five or so minutes down the street towards Apgu, and you will see a 7/11 on your right.  Social Club is right across the convenient store.

Price: beers and cocktails – 6,000 to 9,000 Won
Btl of Moet & Chandon – 110,000 Won
Side dishes – 10,000 to 25,000 Won

I like how this place looks. It’s a shame they don’t have many people come in though… I will have to go check it out myself. Thanks for the great info!

Yo, read 10 Magazine’s write up on this: http://10magazine.asia/2539/seoul-social-club/

I’m guessing it’s more of a scheduled events thing or catered to private parties? But even so, i’d be curious to know how they could afford upkeep with such a niche audience.
