What’s up, SeoulGrid? Hope everyone had fun last week — I know I had a blast in Japan! But as fun a city as Tokyo is, I have to say, I’m definitely glad to be back in Seoul this weekend. I honestly don’t think there’s anywhere in the world that parties harder than we do ;)
This weekend starts off on Thursday, as we’ve got Kanye West’s DJ coming to Seoul and you wouldn’t want to miss it. So without further ado, let’s check out what this weekend has to offer…
Thursday, April 29th
DJ Reflex @ Club Function
DJ Reflex is a celebrity DJ from LA who has DJ’d (Hmm, DJed? English teachers, help me out here) for such acts as Kanye West, 50 cent, and Lady Gaga, and is now branching out into the realm of production as well. Here’s a sample:
DJ Reflex Presents : Power Party Mix with A-Trak from DJ Reflex on Vimeo.
His style is a pretty unique blend of funk, hip-hop, and a vaguely old-school sound, with some talented scratching at work.
He’s currently doing a tour of Asia, and passing through Seoul on his way to Busan. This show was originally supposed to be at Club Volume, but I guess they had to relocate due to Volume’s seemingly perpetual status, “under renovation.”
Regardless, Function is a sick venue to begin with, and it’s a Thursday night with little else going on, so you have no reason to miss this show. Besides, did Lady Gaga and Kanye West come to your birthday party? [Yeah, that's right -- DJ Reflex is way cooler than you are. Deal with it.]
Cover is W15,000. Stop by and check it out if you don’t have any other plans, and I’ll see you there.
Directions: Get out at exit #2 at Itaewon Station, and walk straight for 300 meters, or for 3-4 minutes. Macaroni Market / Club Function is on the second floor on your left, right above “Buy The Way” — look for a glowing “F” by the entrance.
And now for the rest of our weekend…
Friday, April 30th
Saturday, May 1st
Party Info:
Fri @ Heaven: “Power Pops:” Oriental Funk Stew
Oriental Funk Stew is a Korean DJ whose style is an eclectic mix of funky, soulful house and chillout lounge-style music, among other influences. He’s collaborated with Korean vocalists on tracks such as Sweet Melody feat. Honey-J. Check out more of his music at Oriental Funk Stew MySpace.
Fri @ Eden & Answer
Eden and Answer haven’t announced party schedules for Friday, so expect resident DJs. Club Answer’s DJs typically play electro house, and Club Eden’s DJs typically play tech house and minimalism.
Wow… Heaven’s party poster looks so naked and alone up there.

Sat @ Answer: White Noize Vol. 10 — 1 Year Anniversary
Guest DJ: Inside Core (Korea)
White Noize is a party brand that brings music, fashion, art, and design together into one cohesive whole. This is their 10th party and 1 year anniversary.
I can’t find any clips of Inside Core online, but based on previous WhiteNoize parties I would expect the style to be Nu-Disco and Electro. The music at these parties is typically really energetic and fun.

Sat @ Heaven: “Sexy May Queen”
Featured Resident DJ: Fin
I decided when Club Heaven says “guest DJ” what they really mean is “featured DJ,” so I’m going to adopt the terminology for them from now on.
No clips of DJ Fin that I can find online. Club Heaven describes their style as “Techno, House.”

Sat @ Mansion (Sinsa): Moon Lounge Party
Guest DJs (Korea): Roem, Keystoned, Sarovia, Stereo, Planet B, Sungha
This is our “most interesting” pick for the night, and I honestly don’t know what to expect, as there’s not much information about it online. The tag line is “Lounge / Special / Talk & Play.”
Sinsa Mansion has two floors. For this party, the top floor will have “Soulful House / Lounge” music, as well roulette, blackjack, and tarot cards. (Yes, I’m intrigued, too). The music on B1 will be “Nu Disco / Progressive.” Typically the upper floor of Sinsa Mansion is a quiet place to chill, and B1 is a place to party and dance.
The poster says the party goes from 10pm to 6am, and that cover is W20,000.
To get to Sinsa Mansion, tell the taxi driver 도산 공원 (Dosan Gongwan / Dosan Park). Mansion is located in the basement of the building to the right of the Hermes building.
Closing Comments:
Things look a bit tame this week, but I think we need that once in a while so we don’t party ourselves into the ground ;) So get some rest if you like, and hopefully by next weekend the weather picks up. You do know why, don’t you? World DJ Fest is coming!
Anyway, I’ll be back with the scoop next week. Until then, party hard (but don’t sacrifice your health!).
James
