SeoulGrid Guide to Clubbing Vol. 12 (June 3-5)

Posted by James On June - 3 - 2010

SeoulGrid Guide to Clubbing Vol. 12Hey guys. It’s june, so this week let’s all take a break from partying and instead wake up early on Saturday and Sunday morning to spend the weekend out in the sun.

Haha just kidding. What, you didn’t think I was serious, did you? I mean, sure, we should definitely take advantage of the great weather by spending some time outdoors, but that doesn’t mean we have cut back on our partying. Just sleep less! The way I see it, I’ll have plenty of time to sleep when I’m dead ;)

With that said, this week the party starts on Thursday night…

Thursday, June 3rd:

It’s the first Thursday in June, and you know what that means: HSK is back with another First Thursdays Afterwork Party.

If you’ve never been to one of these before, check out the pictures from the May Afterwork Party. These are upscale champagne parties for professionals that occur on the first Thursday of every month. Turnout is always good, and these are consistently some of the best Thursday-night parties in Seoul.

This month they’re actually holding two Afterwork Parties in two different locations: at Club Function in Itaewon, and at Oga in Sinsa-dong / Apgujeong. Club Function is one of the nicest lounge clubs in Seoul, and I’ve never been to Oga but I understand it has a really nice outdoor terrace, which is perfect for the nice summer weather.

If you’re not busy on Thursday night, be sure to stop by. Check the link for more information and directions:

Friday, June 4th:

There are no big DJs coming in on Friday, so I’m probably going to see Astro Voize at Club Answer. Astro Voize is one of my favorite Korean DJ groups, who never fail to pump up the crowd with a mix of electro-house and nu-disco.

Also, Answer’s resident DJ Gon has been killing it recently, to the point where he’s been showing up some of the foreign guest DJs — a couple of times, the crowd actually got more pumped up after the guest DJ finished. For a while he stopped playing at answer, and I’m not sure why, but I’m glad now that he’s back.

Club Eden’s “Le Local Series” features different Korean DJs each party. This week’s duo, East Collective, plays techno / minimal tech house:

At Heaven, a live show with rappers, singers, dancers, and percussionists:

And trance at Volume:

Saturday, June 5th:

On Saturday, Eden is bringing in a progressive house DJ from Tel Aviv, Israel:

More information:

At Heaven we have a minimal tech-house DJ from Mark Knight’s record label, Toolroom Records:

Ever since the lounge-club LUV opened in Itaewon, it seems to be the new favorite hangout spot for most of the SeoulGrid team. The venue is sleek, their drinks reasonably priced, and their DJs are good. This week they have Swedish DJ NOI spinning deep / tech house. Expect to see some of the SeoulGrid team if you stop by ;)

Electro / Hip-Hop / Breakbeat DJ at Club Answer:

Trance party at Club Volume:

Ever since Club Naked shut down, Club Mansion in Sinsa-dong / Cheongdam has picked up a lot of the slack of the afterclub scene. This week they have a psytrance party with some of the old Club Naked DJs. Check it out during regular club hours, or stop by after-hours if you want to keep partying after your main club finishes.

And if you’re a fan of Hip-Hop, there’s a party in Hongdae Mansion you should probably check out with DJ Yup, DJ Wu, and Nuphonique among others. They describe it as “Hip-Hop with a spice of fidget DnB, Bmore, funk electronic and house:”

That’s it for this week, SeoulGrid clubbers. As always, be safe, but party hard!

Help! I can’t figure out where Oga is, even with that map :-\

  • James

@Jane — I just added directions to the June First Thursdays page. I’m doing it from memory, so I hope it’s easy enough to follow.

  • Sara

why are they doing two afterwork parties on the same day? lol now i need to pick which one to go to.

  • Jessica

Can’t make it to the afterwork party, too much… work :(

  • Chris

Where’s everyone going tonight? Answer? Eden?

  • Greg

    Answer 갑시다! haha

  • Zoolander

What’s good tonight? I have some friends in from out of town. I’m thinking I might take them to LUV but I’m not sure…

  • Sasha

LUV’s really fun and prices are really reasonable, not like these other clubs that charge $15 for a cocktail. It’s a lot more down to earth but it’s still a really nice place.
