What’s up SeoulGrid — everyone have fun last weekend? I know I had a blast at Funkagenda, and I heard from tons of people that Oakenfold was epic. I even know one diehard clubber who hit up Volume, Answer, and Eden all on Saturday night so as to not miss anything. [Haha, I hope he's reading this -- rock on bro.]
No Paul Oakenfolds this week, but that doesn’t mean we can’t party hard. Unfortunately, Club Volume is closed again to finish renovations (these things always seem to take longer than expected), and should be opening finally next Friday. Fortunately, one of the other clubs has a really unique DJ coming in this weekend who’s supposed to put on an awesome show. Keep reading for the lowdown…

Fri @ Answer: Astro Voize: Punk as FXXX

That’s right. I’m going to post the same video I posted last time for Astro Voize. It’s just that good.
So what makes Astro Voize awesome?
1) Musical Selection.
2) Stage presence.
I don’t really need to say anything else. If you like electro, Astro Voize is amazing. If you don’t like electro, there’s something wrong with you. [Just kidding. But seriously... What's wrong with you?] Definitely check them out if you haven’t seen them play yet. And if you have already seen them play, I don’t need to convince you. If you go to this show, you will not be disappointed.

Fri @ Eden: Colors Party Code Green

Resident DJs: Yeonjun, Sundance, Ziro, E-you, Brandon, Ashoka
Just a regular club night. Video is resident DJs at Eden. The resident DJs usually play tech-house and minimalism.
I suppose we’re supposed to wear green? Haha don’t quote me on that though.

Fri @ Heaven: The Originals
Resident DJs: Sunshine, Shai, Mindbender, Roxy, Brain-X, Psytonic, Fin, Catalyst
Ok, can someone please explain to Club Heaven what a “Guest DJ” is? Every week Heaven cycles their resident DJs and calls half of them “guests.” Like, I know for a fact that Roxy is a resident DJ at heaven, but she’s listed as a “guest DJ” this week. Yes, it’s a big deal to me. No, I can’t just let it rest.
Regardless, this is “Techno Vol. 2″ for Club Heaven. I couldn’t find any quality clips of their resident DJs online.
[Top Pick] Sat @ Answer: Kavinsky

A friend of a friend just saw Kavinsky in Tokyo and said that the show was incredible. People are calling him the next generation of French Electro, following in the footsteps of Daft Punk and Justice. After listening to his stuff, I can say his style is definitely one-of-a-kind.
Think synth film scores from the ’80s. Think SNES. Think Knight Rider meets Tron. [Speaking of SNES, did anyone here play Mega Man II? This game had one kickass soundtrack. Ok I'm a huge dork.] Anyway, If I wanted to sum up Kavinsky’s style in a word, I would have to go with “Neo-Retro,” if that makes any sense. So it’s like he came from some strange alternate universe where the ’80s was awesome.
Check out more of his music on Kavinsky’s Myspace. If you like what you hear, then I’ll see you Saturday!

Sat @ Eden: Kenny Dope & Louie Vega

This duo goes under the name “Masters at Work” or MAW. The video I posted is a bit more upbeat than a lot of their stuff, but it was the highest quality video I could find. For the most part their style seems to be a kind of funky, soulful minimal house with some Latin influence. Definitely an ineresting sound if it’s your style.

Sat @ Heaven: Psytonic Super Live

Note that this is a live show — “Drum, Guitar, Keyboard, Vocal” — but I can’t find a clip of Psytonic playing a live set online.
Psytonic’s usual style is psytrance, so if that’s your thing, it should be quite interesting to see psytrance accompanied by live rock.

What did you guys think of the new layout for this installment? Easier to navigate? Like it? Hate it? Let me know in the comments.
Next week we should finally see Club Volume reopen permanently, a thus our weekend megaclubbing options will increase by, well, 33.33%. And with so many options, it can be confusing to decide where to party. But fear not, dear reader! That’s what we’re here for. So tune in again next week for the lowdown on what’s happening in the Seoul club world. Party hard, SeoulGrid!
