What’s up, SeoulGrid? James here, back with another weekend of clubby goodness. To start us off, this Friday is Club Day in Hongdae, where you can bounce between 21 different clubs for the price of one. Then on Saturday, we’ll all no doubt be out to support Korea as they play Uruguay in the top-16 of the World Cup, and afterwards there will be a great line-up of interesting DJs as well. Read on to find out everything you need to know for this weekend.
Friday, June 25th:
It’s the last Friday of the month, and that mean’s it’s Club Day in Hongdae. On Club Day, you pay one cover charge of 20,000 Won and get access to 21 different Hongdae clubs. This has been a tradition in Hongdae on the last Friday of every month since 2001.
If you’ve never been before, expect huge crowds of people and packed clubs, but also long lines waiting to get inside. For more information and a list of participating clubs, check here:
Japanese DJ Towa Tei will be coming to Club Ben in Hongdae:
His style is hard to describe — kind of poppy, jazzy, and lounge-y. Either way, he’s huge in Japan, so definitely deserves a mention:
And here are the parties happening in Seoul’s four hottest megaclubs:
- “Go Back to Disco” @ Eden
- “Drive Tunes Vol. 2″ @ Answer
- Shut Da Mouth @ Heaven
- “Psytemple Vol. 5″ @ Volume
Saturday, June 26th:
The World Cup game against Uruguay will be starting at 11pm Seoul time. I did a write-up in a previous club-post on some of the major spots to watch the game, so be sure to check that out. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain this time!
Then, we move on to the clubbing:
This Saturday we have a change of pace from the regular line-up of house DJs. One of the top 3 hip-hop DJs of all time (most would argue #1 of all time) is coming to Seoul: DJ Premier. Starting from his roots in Gangstarr back in 1989, Premier has continued to produce beats throughout the decades for acts like Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, Fat Joe, and Mos Def.

Syndicate is a new party brand that’s trying to bring in class hip-hop acts as an alternative to the monopoly house music currently holds in Seoul. Right now, if you’re a fan of hip-hop, you have few choices outside of NB or some clubs in Itaewon and Hongdae. Syndicate is trying to change that by throwing classier parties with quality acts. For you fans of hip-hop or anyone who wants a change of pace, check it out:
Speaking of change of pace, drum & bass group London Elektricity is coming to BinZip Project in Cheongdam:

More info on the show:
The last weekend of the month also means it’s Daishi Day in Club Heaven.
Daishi Dance plays at Heaven on the last Saturday of each month. His style is mellow, instrumental, soulful house. If you haven’t seen him yet, it’s definitely worth a visit.
With some wobble bass and dirty dirty electro will be Drop the Lime at Club Answer:
Ooh, it huurts soo goood. If you like your house music hard and heavy, Answer’s definitely the place to be. Wobble wobble wobble wobble.
The other megaclubs:
HSK is having their third “Seoul is Burning” party at Mansion in Hongdae:
And the new Club LUV continues to book relatively underground but really talented DJs:
That’s all we have for this week. Party hard, Seoul, and I’ll catch you all next week. (If I don’t see you at the game!)
Cheers,
James
