SeoulGrid Guide to Clubbing Vol. 17 (July 9-10)

Posted by James On July - 7 - 2010

SeoulGrid Guide to Clubbing Vol. 17What’s up, SeoulGrid? This week, another Top 100 DJ is coming to Seoul. Additionally, I was pleasantly shocked to see one of my all-time favorite underground DJs is making an appearance at one of Seoul’s top clubs as well.

My gut feeling tells me it’s going to be a good weekend.

Read on for details!

Friday, July 9th

The weekend starts off with an A.N.D party at Hongdae Mansion. A.N.D is brought to you by the same people behind White Noize, and Mansion is arguably Hongdae’s hottest club. Check out this page for details:

Or if hip-hop is your thing, you’re in luck, as a few new party groups have been springing up and popularizing the hip-hop scene in Seoul. Trafik is bringing in two famous female hip-hop DJs — DJ Noodles from Taiwan and DJ Mayumi from Japan. Check out the facebook page for more info:

And as for Seoul’s hottest megaclubs:

Saturday, July 21st:

As some of you know, I used to throw parties in Seoul. Well now I only write about them (haha), but when I discovered Lazy Rich’s music, I contemplating throwing parties again just so I could bring this dude over from Canada and hear him play live. Luckily for me, someone at Heaven took care of it for me.

Lazy Rich @ Club Heaven

This guy is still relatively unknown, but anyone who has heard of him knows he’s one of the biggest up-and-coming electro DJs in the scene. In only two years, he’s already dropped dozens of original tracks and remixes, with a surprising number of them topping DJ charts. His tracks are, in my opinion, some of the absolute sickest, dirtiest electro ever made.

[MOAR COWBELL!]

Additionally, practically every remix he touches turns to gold:

[Can you tell I'm a big fan?]

He started his own record label as well: here’s a sampling from Big Fish Records from 2009.

He was on my list of top 5 DJs I wanted to see live, and now I finally get the chance. [In case someone from one of the megaclubs is reading this and is curious, Wolfgang Gartner and Felguk are top 2... Pull some strings for me ;) ].

There’s no way I’m missing this show.

Then we have another top 100 DJ at Club Volume: Richard Durand. This guy came to Club Heaven in October, and was nothing short of amazing. I’m not usually a fan of trance, but he is incredible to see live. As Gui Boratto is to minimal / tech house, Richard Durand is to trance. You don’t even have to like the genre to enjoy the show — he’s just that good.

I give this show nothing short of my highest recommendation — if you go, you will not be disappointed.

At Eden, Rob Mirage is coming from New York.

Sounds like a really talented tech house DJ. So if the other shows don’t do it for you, check it out.

And lastly, Answer is throwing a bizarrely-themed party — “Follow Me on Twitter.” Hmmm…

DJs are from Housegraphy Records, the former Club Naked DJs.

The bottom line is, this weekend we’ve got options. Don’t ya love it when that happens?!

By the way, in case you noticed, this week’s club post being a bit more minimal than usual. I’m working overtime over the summer and don’t have the time necessary to do a really good job on these posts every week. I’m seriously looking for someone to help out!

So if you’ve read this far, you obviously care enough about these weekly club posts that you would be upset if they started sucking; consider becoming my sidekick! Then you can be known as “the club guy” (or gal). Then you can have people calling you every weekend asking, “Who’s playing in Eden?” and bitterly respond, “Read the damn club guide you idiot.” See? This job has perks! [But in all seriousness, there are some nice benefits to being part of the SeoulGrid team.]

So if you love clubbing and want to contribute something back to the scene, send me an email at james@seoulgrid.com — I really could use the help ;)

Ok, plea for help aside, party hard this weekened. And wherever you end up, feel free to let us know how it was!

Answer’s party name seems ridiculous. Rofl.
Lazy Rich sounds pretty good. Can’t believe I’m stuck in Paris…
