D6 @ Cheongdam – Culinary Adventure for the Chic

Posted by Richard On July - 12 - 2010

D6

Just as you occasionally feel the need to stomp on the accelerator to escape from everyday mundanities, the millions of taste buds that have served you well (hopefully) thus far in your life deserve the same.  When you feel like it is time to reconcile conflicts of culinary extremes between extra creamy chicken penne alfredo and aged kimchi jjigae (spicy kimchi soup), it is time you visit a newly-opened fine-dining restaurant in Cheongdam titled D6.

Awesome Lounge Hall

Having a private party in Korea always comes as a challenge. Hotels are pricey and it can be hard to make reservations, while karaoke places usually don’t provide enough space for a large group of people. The solution to this problem is Awesome Lounge — a hidden gem in Cheongdam which offers private rooms with sufficient space for your event, as well as an extensive bottle menu and finger foods.

New restaurants in the Cheongdam area are constantly springing up and it is difficult to choose which ones to review.  Fortunately, Villa Etwas was recommended to us so we decided to give their brunch buffet a thorough go.

Lugo @ Cheongdam — Impeccable Pasta & Mozzarella

Posted by Richard On April - 9 - 2010

One place that caught my attention these days was Lugo. A good friend of mine took a group of people there for lunch recently and got great feedback about the restaurant. I heard from him that they had hand-made mozzarella which got me excited.

Lugo is located right beside ex-Club Circle, near Tribeca or Designer Club, i.e. prime real estate. A restaurant located in probably the most accessible area in Cheongdam definitely deserves the highest of all expectation. I had always wanted to check Lugo, an American-styled Italian restaurant, out, but I never had the chance to until now.

[Obituary] S Bar @ Cheongdam

Posted by Richard On March - 28 - 2010

[Update] S Bar apparently isn’t closed for good! They are undergoing renovation.  Read more about it on our Seoul Scene Updates post.

Once in a while but still too often for your liking, you hear about one of your old friends who you no longer are close to passing away.  You have so many memories with the friend all the way back, but for whatever reasons the friend and you separated to go on your own ways.  No longer close, but still hearing about a friend who made you who you are now, for better or for once, is never easy.

And a few weeks ago, I heard that S Bar in Cheongdam, one of the places to be for over a decade, had closed down.  It’s been over a year since I visited the place.  Don’t get me wrong, it was one of the hottest places in Seoul to hang out; however I chose to give all these new places popping up nearby a try whenever I was in the area.  S Bar to most, due to its long history and its continued popularity, seemed like it would be there forever.

Finger Lounge is one of those venues located in alleys of Cheongdam that not everyone knows about.  It’s a modern lounge located in the alley between Tom N Toms cafe and MNet building (the main road that connects ex-Circle, McDonald’s Drivethrough and Club Answer).

The interior is very modern and clean.  Bar, which is located in the center of the venue, is metal-finished.  The center of the venue space almost reminds you of a large kitchen, where as tables and seats surround the center bar is white and wooden-brown in color.  It’s an interesting blend of two different atmospheres captured within a venue.

Club Answer, Seoul

Le Nuit Blanche is now Club Answer, again.

For Club Answer, one of Seoul’s most popular clubs, the last year or so has been nothing short of eventful. The club’s once mysterious insides took the public stage when controversially revealing photos of clubbers on the internet hit the news. Then toward the latter part of 2009, it closed down for renovations, re-opening with a brand new, confusing, and for many koreans, hard-to-pronounce name: “Le Nuit Blanche.” It soon changed back to “Answer,” though its intimidatingly luxurious gates that still bear the French name. [Editorial note: The sign out front finally reads "Club Answer" again.]

Despite the chaos, Club Answer’s penchant for exceptional music selection and a consistently great crowd that knows how to party have made it without a doubt one of the best clubs in Seoul.

First Thursdays Afterwork March - Moet & Chandon Rose & Chocolate Hennessy @Copacabana, Cheongdam, Seoul

First Thursdays Afterwork returned this time with Moet et Chandon Rose and Hennessy!  The party was hosted at Copacabana, Cheongdam’s newest trendy lounge that is located right next to Tribeca or ex-Club Circle building.  Check out the picture gallery to see if you and your friends were captured in the moment!  Or if you couldn’t make it for whatever reason, check out the gallery anyways to see what you missed out on!

March First Thursdays Afterwork featured a chocolate fountain for guests to dip biscuits, strawberries and other fruits.  Also featured were a gigantic ice sculpture of Hennessy bottle, which was nothing short of impressive.  As usual Copacabana was packed with people and towards the end of the night some were moving their bodies along with the house beats dropped by the DJ at the booth.  Next First Thursdays will be on the first Thursday of April.  Visit Afterwork website for more details.
